Silas Bøcher (1987) is a Danish fine furniture designer and maker based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Silas has a background in government work but decided to leave that career for furniture making after searching for meaning beyond the office desk – and finding it within the desk itself.
Silas graduated from trade school (Next København) in 2024 with a silver medal, the highest award, for outstanding craftmanship in this journeyman's piece.
At his workshop Silas designs and crafts beautiful, bespoke furniture firmly rooted in the Danish design tradition while also drawing inspiration from Japanese and American designers and craftsmen.
The central tenet in Silas' work is respect for wood as material. That implies working to the highest standards, meticulously transforming the natural material into heirloom-quality showpiece furniture to suit the requirements of his clients.
Intricate details such as handmade pulls and beautiful joinery is often incorporated. Silas is extremely skilled with hand tools and leaving traces of hand crafting is a bit of a trademark.
Sustainability is an important motivational factor. Heirloom-quality furniture is inherently more sustainable than mass-produced furniture, but the longevity of the product is not enough. Industrial furniture production is often wasteful and involves using chemicals and plastics.
Small-scale artisinal furniture-making, however, holds promises of being different; as such, Silas strives to reduce waste and use local woods as well as natural products throughout the production process. This benefits both the environment, and everyone's health and safety.
