Restoration and repair

I offer repair and careful restauration of both modern and antique furniture.

Why repair?

Older furniture is often made to a high standard with good materials enabling them to last for a long time. Sometimes all it takes is a little work and a piece is good for another 50 years.

Make a sustainable choice and have me extend the life of your furniture. Feel free to reach out to discuss the options.

Restore or repair?

There are several different approaches to repairs and restauration. Sometimes a customer is primarily concerned with restoring the functionality of a piece, while preservation of patina and the original expression of a piece is usually a more important factor - in addition to ensuring function and stability for years to come - when restoring a highly treasured antique.

The approach depends on what you would like to achieve and the budget available, and I'll offer suggestions based on my knowledge and experience. Regardless, before any work is caried out we will discuss your expectations of the final result and how you would like me to prioritize the functional and aesthetic considerations involved in the task.

Example of tasks

Examples of repair and restoration tasks include:

- gluing loose joinery

- refinishing worn surfaces

- fixing damaged veneer

- adjusting drawers and doors to operate smoothly

- replacing parts of a piece of furniture, for instance a broken leg on a chair or table

- weaving a new seat for your chairs from Danish cord

- and the list goes on...

Additionally, refer to the images of previous restauration tasks for examples.

A beautiful old desk designed by Hans J. Wegner received a new veenered table top - stained to match the patina of the frame. In addition, loose joinery was glued, drawers adjusted and the desk received a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat of oil.
A coffee table, also by Wegner, had a crack in the table top, which was fixed. The entire table top of sanded and the table received two fresh coats of oil.
